One
thousand visas were provided to Tibetans-in-exile as part of the comprehensive
Immigration Act of 1990. Although a handful of Tibetans had been living here previously,
Colorado welcomed its first batch of Tibetan re-settlers from the passing of the
Act in March of 1993. Colorado is now home to over 200 Tibetans who are ambassadors
for the future survival of Tibet. The Tibetan Association of Colorado was established
in 1997 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization. Ten board members who are
elected annually govern it.
